Episode Name:
Leveraging Resources and Validating Game Concepts
Episode Description:
Indie game development is a constant balancing act, especially when it comes to deciding where to invest our most important resources: time and money.
So today, we’ll explore the relationship we have with these resources, find creative ways to increase them and… how we should use them.
But we don’t stop there, as we’ll discuss the role they play in how we validate concepts, going over everything from crowdfunding to one of the simplest and most effective ideas ever to validate a concept.
And it requires very little time and money, and will save you a ton of both too.
Q?Box Round Answers
Name one thing that motivates you every day?
I get to do what I love. What I dreamed about doing, starting when I was in the 6th grade. The variety of it. It’s not always fun, or even enjoyable, but I get to CHOOSE it, and I wouldn’t choose to do anything differently. Also – seeing people LOVE our game(s) and that positive reaction. The creative impact – knowing that what we do is entirely our own, shaped by us, our vision carried out etc… that is incredibly fulfilling, challenging, and sort of like a “call”.
What’s one habit you do to keep a clear and healthy mind?
Small meditations on a fixed schedule throughout the day, and taking time for long walks to daydream / let your mind wander + reset
What game are you playing now?
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders. Sequel to the OG Lonely Mountains: Downhill – amazing game by some very good friends of ours. Insanely great controls, game feel, incredible level design, a really unique game there’s nothing else really out there like it. A great blend of racing / time trial, zen, and exploratory puzzle solving reminiscent of 90s gaming
