How to Survive and Grow an Indie Studio Over a Decade
Episode Description:
What does it take to survive as an indie game studio for 10 years? That’s a great question and one we’re going to tackle head on by exploring challenges of sustaining an independent game studio.
Today our guest shares their journy starting as a student project, and the lessons learned along the ways like overcoming early hurdles to adapting to industry challenges and the strategies that kept their company afloat and growing as they pushed through uncertain times.
Q?Box Round Answers
What’s your main approach to tackling problems?
I try to understand what the problem actually is. Usually you think you know the problem, but it’s really more of the feeling you have versus the actual problem at hand. “I’m Stressed about this project” isn’t really a problem, I try to dig into and get a “I’m stressed because this milestone isn’t realistic, etc.” and then you can better address the problem.
Biggest gaming pet peeve?
Games that give you everything at the start, only to take it away and make you earn it all back. I quit Assassins Creed 1 right after they took all my fancy tools away.
What game are you playing now?
Starship Home & Starfield (again)
