Episode Name:
Creating Impactful Production and Collaboration
Episode Description:
Having a clearly defined production and collaboration process can make all the difference in how a project progresses. However, it’s not always easy to achieve, and sometimes can feel like a mystery that takes forever to solve.
So today, we’re going to delve into various obstacles related to this, and uncover strategies for overcoming them, discussing everything from effective team building to communication. Through that, we’ll discover how teams can navigate the process effectively and foster creativity that has a positive impact for the project and everyone involved.
Q?Box Round Answers
What’s one habit you have that has contributed to your success?
Whenever I enter a new project I try to talk to as many people as possible (or everyone, if possible) ask them about what they do, how they work, what are the usual hurdles they face, see some of the things they’ve done. It gives me insight into the internal dynamics of a project. It also helps to build genuine relationships with the people and that always helps facilitating communication.
What’s your main approach to tackling problems?
Talking to the people facing the problem, understanding the nature of it (sometimes the thing we perceive as a problem is just a symptom of a different issue that needs solving) and tackling it. I sometimes even ask for people to describe a problem to me, as their understanding of it and my understanding of it can be two completely different things.

TIPS and ADVICE
We covered quite a bit today. Could you list 3 suggestions or tips you would recommend to indie devs based on our discussion?
- Fundamental building block of any good team is trust, so trust your teams, be open and honest with them, talk often, don’t micromanage them, let them fail.
- Healthy teams make great games, overworked teams experience burnout. You can’t make games without the people, so take care of the people.
- WRITE STUFF DOWN (or hire a producer to write stuff down for you), our brains are imprerfect and we forget things.
