Episode Name:

Everything you do is Marketing

Episode Description:

Whether we want to admit or not, everything we do during the development to the release of games involves some level of marketing. From communicating and sharing information to making claims that “no marketing” was done, marketing is an intrinsic component of development and carries well beyond awareness and promotion.

In this episode, we’re going to uncover some of the general misconceptions people have about marketing, how positioning and representation are just as important as creating awareness, and explore how some strategies can be counter-intuitive, in both positive and negative ways.

TIPS and ADVICE

We covered quite a bit today. Could you list 3 suggestions or tips you would recommend to indie devs based on our discussion?

  1. Always ensure your people can get in touch with you however they prefer (within reason of course). Make your socials and contact info readily available on each of your platforms.
  2. Consider EVERY interaction as a possibility to go viral. You never know what could happen and always want to ensure you’re putting your best foot forward.
  3. And further to point 2 – ALWAYS tell the truth and never misrepresent. Be kind. Be diplomatic. But be truthful. Marketing on a lie ends badly for everyone.
